Where airport SIM vending machines are listed

Official airport service directories list prepaid SIM vending machines at Narita International Airport and Kansai International Airport. They can be convenient after a long flight, especially when a staffed counter is closed, but convenience does not remove the need to check phone compatibility, plan length and activation instructions before payment.

Narita Airport terminals

Narita lists GPA SIM vending locations before security in Terminal 1 South Wing, Terminal 2 Main Building and Terminal 3 Main Building. Terminal 2 has multiple listed positions in some zones. Confirm your arrival terminal, follow the airport's current service map and avoid assuming that a machine in another terminal is a quick walk away.

Kansai Airport terminals

Kansai Airport lists SIM vending in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Terminal 1 JTB machine is listed as open 24 hours, while the GLOBAL WiFi Central Counter and SIM vending location is listed from 06:00 to 23:00. Terminal 2 is separate from the rail-station area, so transferring only to buy a SIM may not be efficient.

Compatibility checks before payment

Before paying, verify that the phone is unlocked, supports the required network bands and accepts the SIM size or eSIM method being sold. Read the data allowance, validity period, tethering policy, activation deadline, support channel and refund rules. Keep the packaging until service works because it may contain the APN or activation code.

When an eSIM or staffed counter may be better

An eSIM purchased before departure can be simpler for compatible phones, while a staffed counter may be better when you need help installing a physical SIM. Airport Wi-Fi can provide temporary access while comparing options. This guide does not recommend a specific plan because stock and commercial terms change frequently.
