Best for

Food-focused travelers and repeat visitors who want a compact regional trip.

Transport reality

Kyushu Shinkansen and limited express trains cover the main spine. Aso, Kurokawa and coastal areas need separate bus or car planning.

Day-by-day route

  1. 1

    Days 1–2 · Fukuoka

Fukuoka as the transport and food base

Start around Hakata and Tenjin, then choose Dazaifu or Itoshima rather than attempting both in one short day.

  2. 2

    Days 3–4 · Nagasaki

    Nagasaki's layered port history

Stay two nights so hillside sights, museums and evening views are not compressed around tram transfers.

  3. 3

    Days 5–6 · Kumamoto

Kumamoto city plus one Aso option

Use the city as a base and check volcanic restrictions, road conditions and the exact bus before committing to an Aso day.

  4. 4

    Days 7–8 · Oita

Beppu or Yufuin, not an onsen checklist

Choose one overnight base, confirm each bath's day-use and tattoo policy, and leave time to rest after bathing.

  5. 5

    Days 9–10 · Kagoshima

    Optional southern finish in Kagoshima

Add Kagoshima only if departure and rail timing work. Sakurajima access depends on current volcanic and ferry information.
