Narita Airport's official service directory lists GPA prepaid SIM vending machines in Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The machines are useful for independent arrivals, but terminal geography matters. Confirm the airline terminal and the before-security or before-customs position shown on the current airport page.
Terminal 1 South Wing
Terminal 1 has an official listing in the South Wing on the first floor before security. Travelers arriving elsewhere in the terminal should follow the current floor map rather than assuming every arrival exit leads directly to it. Airport construction or access controls can alter the practical route.
Terminal 2 Main Building
Terminal 2 has multiple GPA listings in the Main Building, including first-floor before-security positions and another listed zone. More listed machines do not guarantee that every unit has identical stock. Choose the accessible one after baggage and customs rather than crossing restricted boundaries.
Terminal 3 Main Building
Terminal 3 has a first-floor Main Building listing before security. The rail station named Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 serves the area, but Terminal 3 still requires following signs and allowing walking or shuttle time. Narita's official transfer guide says Terminal 2 and 3 can be connected by an access corridor or free shuttle, and warns that road congestion can delay buses. Do not plan a tight onward connection around SIM shopping.
Buy only after compatibility checks
Before payment, verify that the phone is unlocked, supports the plan's network bands and accepts the SIM format. Read data allowance, validity, tethering, activation and refund terms. Narita provides free Wi-Fi throughout the terminals and on terminal shuttle buses, so there is time to compare an eSIM or staffed alternative. The airport warns that the public network is not preconfigured for secure communication; avoid sensitive account work without an appropriate secure connection.
