Chugoku
Tottori
Tottori is Japan's least populous prefecture but not a compact collection of stops. It stretches along the Sea of Japan from Tottori City and the dunes through Iwami's deeply cut coast, Kurayoshi and Misasa's historic inland basin, to Yonago, Sakaiminato and the volcanic mass of Daisen. Rail runs mainly east-west near the coast; limited buses turn the dunes, coves, hot springs and mountain gateways into separate planning modules. Sand heat, coastal swell, winter snow and mountain weather are not background details but operating conditions. A good itinerary distributes nights, checks the day's transport and safety notices, and keeps indoor or town alternatives whenever nature closes the preferred route.
