Ibaraki
Ibaraki looks close to Tokyo, yet its destinations sit on several transport corridors that do not form a convenient loop. JR's Joban Line serves Tsuchiura, Mito and Hitachi; Tsukuba Express ends in Tsukuba rather than Tsuchiura; the Suigun Line reaches Daigo; Kashima Rinkai Railway runs through Oarai toward Kashima; and the west uses the Joso, Mito and Utsunomiya lines. Seasonal flowers, a Pacific coast, Kasumigaura, low mountains and farming towns reward a multi-base journey. They also require current bloom reports, last-bus checks, surf and heat awareness, and conservative decisions on rural roads. Treat each region as a module and Ibaraki becomes far richer than a hurried excursion.
